Create ResumeThe accounts receivable UK salary is one of the most misunderstood areas in finance hiring.
On the surface, it appears like a transactional, fixed-pay role. In reality, salaries vary significantly depending on how your role contributes to cash flow, risk reduction, and financial control.
If you’re searching this, you likely want:
A clear benchmark of what you should be earning
Insight into why some roles cap at £25K while others exceed £55K
A strategy to increase your salary and move beyond transactional finance
This guide breaks down how salaries are actually determined in the UK accounts receivable market from a recruiter and hiring manager perspective.
Accounts Receivable Assistant: £23,000 – £30,000
Accounts Receivable Clerk: £25,000 – £35,000
Senior Accounts Receivable Specialist: £32,000 – £45,000
Accounts Receivable Supervisor: £40,000 – £55,000
Credit Manager / AR Manager: £50,000 – £75,000+
London salaries are typically 10–20% higher due to cost of living and demand.
Most candidates believe salary is tied to years of experience.
In reality, it’s tied to cash impact and risk management.
Hiring managers assess:
Cash collection performance (DSO reduction)
Credit control effectiveness
Volume and complexity of transactions
Stakeholder interaction (clients, finance leadership)
Systems expertise (ERP systems like SAP, Oracle)
Key insight: Someone managing high-value accounts and reducing outstanding debt consistently earns more than someone processing invoices only.
Typical range: £23,000 – £30,000
At this level, roles are largely transactional.
Hiring expectations:
Invoice processing
Basic reconciliation
Attention to detail
Why salaries stay low:
Limited responsibility
High supply of candidates
Fast-track strategy:
Learn credit control
Gain exposure to collections
Understand financial reporting basics
Typical range: £25,000 – £35,000
This level introduces responsibility.
Higher earners:
Manage debtor accounts
Handle collections
Work directly with clients
Lower earners:
Remain focused on data entry
Lack ownership of cash flow
Typical range: £32,000 – £45,000
At this level, you influence financial performance.
Hiring managers expect:
Ownership of aged debt
Reduction in overdue payments
Process improvements
Reporting insights
Typical range: £40,000 – £55,000
Now you are evaluated on:
Team performance
Process efficiency
Cash flow improvement
Stakeholder communication
Typical range: £50,000 – £75,000+
At this level, the role becomes strategic.
You are responsible for:
Credit policies
Risk management
Cash flow forecasting
Financial leadership alignment
Financial Services: £35K – £75K
SaaS / Tech: £40K – £80K
Manufacturing: £35K – £65K
Logistics / Supply Chain: £30K – £60K
Retail: £23K – £40K
Hospitality: £22K – £35K
Small SMEs: £23K – £38K
Recruiter insight: Larger organisations with complex receivables structures pay significantly more.
London: Highest salaries, faster progression
Birmingham / Manchester: Strong mid-level roles
Remote roles: Increasing but less common than other functions
Hidden insight: Hybrid roles in large corporates often pay more than fully remote SME positions.
To move into higher salary brackets, transactional skills are not enough.
Credit control strategy
Cash flow forecasting
ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite)
Financial reporting
Stakeholder management
Process automation
Risk assessment
Team leadership
Weak Example:
“Processed invoices and updated records”
Good Example:
“Reduced Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) by 18%, improving company cash flow by £1.2M”
If your CV lacks numbers, your value appears low.
High-volume, low-value roles limit salary growth.
ERP knowledge is a major salary differentiator.
Shift from:
Tasks → financial outcomes
Processing → performance
Admin → value creation
Include:
DSO reduction
Debt recovery amounts
Process improvements
Bigger companies = higher financial exposure = higher salaries.
Move toward:
Credit management
Financial analysis
Leadership roles
ATS scans for:
Keywords like “accounts receivable,” “credit control,” “reconciliation”
ERP system experience
Role alignment
But ATS only filters candidates.
Recruiters evaluate:
Financial impact
Ownership level
Problem-solving ability
Hiring managers ask:
Can this person improve cash flow?
Can they reduce financial risk?
Can they manage complex accounts?
If unclear, salary potential drops.
Typical career path:
Accounts Assistant
Accounts Receivable Clerk
Senior AR Specialist
AR Supervisor
Credit Manager / Finance Manager
Top earners transition into broader finance or leadership roles.
