Create ResumeIf you’re searching “trader UK salary,” you’re likely seeing fragmented ranges that don’t reflect reality. In trading, compensation is not linear, not stable, and not purely salary-based. It is directly tied to performance, risk, and revenue generation.
This guide breaks down how trader salaries actually work in the UK, what top traders really earn, and how hiring managers evaluate traders when making high-stakes compensation decisions.
At a surface level, UK trader salaries look like this:
Graduate / Junior trader: £35,000 – £60,000
Trader (2–5 years): £60,000 – £120,000
Senior trader: £120,000 – £250,000+
Top traders (hedge funds / prop): £250,000 – £1M+
But this only reflects base salary. The real story is in bonuses.
In trading, your bonus is your real salary.
Typically modest relative to total earnings
Designed as a safety net
Investment banks: 50% – 200% of base
Hedge funds: 100% – 500%+
Proprietary trading firms: Profit share based
Top traders earn:
