Create ResumeIf you search supply chain director UK salary, most pages give you a broad average. That is not how executive-level compensation works in the UK market.
At director level, salary is not just a number. It is a package decision shaped by company size, sector margins, operational complexity, global exposure, and the strategic importance of supply chain within the business model.
A Supply Chain Director in a mid-sized manufacturing firm is not priced the same as one leading a global transformation programme in FMCG or retail. The title may be identical, but the commercial impact is not.
For most UK roles, the realistic compensation looks like this:
Lower range (smaller firms / regional roles): £75,000 to £95,000
Mid-market range (national companies): £95,000 to £120,000
Upper range (large corporates / complex operations): £120,000 to £160,000
Top-tier / enterprise level: £160,000 to £220,000+
Additional compensation:
Bonus: 15% to 40%
Equity / LTIP: Common in larger organisations
Car allowance: £6,000 to £12,000
Private healthcare + pension enhancements
At director level, averages collapse multiple realities into one number.
Recruiters and hiring managers evaluate:
Revenue scale of the business
Supply chain complexity (local vs global)
Team size and budget ownership
Transformation vs steady-state role
Industry margins and cost pressure
This is why two Supply Chain Director roles can differ by £80,000+.
£75,000 to £95,000
Limited international exposure
Smaller teams
Focus on operational efficiency
£95,000 to £120,000
Multi-site operations
Broader ownership (procurement, logistics, planning)
Increasing strategic involvement
£120,000 to £160,000+
Global supply chain responsibility
Transformation programmes
Senior stakeholder management (C-suite exposure)
£160,000 to £220,000+
Full end-to-end ownership
High complexity and risk
Board-level visibility
Industry is one of the biggest salary drivers.
£110,000 to £160,000
High pressure, high volume operations
Strong bonus potential
£95,000 to £140,000
Focus on cost control and efficiency
Global sourcing complexity
£120,000 to £180,000+
Rapid scaling environments
High demand for transformation leaders
£110,000 to £170,000
Regulatory complexity
Supply risk management critical
Location still matters at this level.
£110,000 to £170,000+
Higher base and bonus
More strategic roles
£90,000 to £140,000
Slightly lower base
Often broader operational scope
At director level, location impact is smaller than at junior levels, but still relevant.
From a recruiter’s perspective, salary is justified by impact.
ERP implementation
Supply chain restructuring
Cost reduction programmes
Multi-country operations
Large teams (50+)
Significant budget ownership
Margin improvement
Cost savings (millions+)
Service level optimisation
Direct reporting to COO / CEO
Board-level exposure
Cross-functional leadership
Candidates often overestimate:
Years of experience without scale
Operational roles without strategic exposure
Titles without impact
Managing small teams
At director level, impact beats tenure.
Hiring managers ask:
Can this person lead transformation, not just manage operations?
Have they already operated at this level?
Will they reduce risk or introduce it?
Can we justify this salary internally?
The offer reflects confidence, not just capability.
Weak Example:
“I’m currently on £110k, so I’m looking for £130k.”
Good Example:
“Given the scale of transformation, multi-site responsibility, and comparable director roles in this sector, I would expect positioning toward the upper end of the range.”
This aligns with how boards justify compensation.
Scale of responsibility
Strategic impact
Transformation experience
Leadership depth
Market comparability
If one of these is missing, salary usually drops.
The biggest salary jumps come from scope expansion, not time served.
